• Punjab Technical Education Minister holds meeting with Additional Secretary of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

To provide better employment opportunities to the youth of Punjab, the state government has decided to start new short term courses of skill development and entrepreneurship. While confirming the development, Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi said that along with the commencement of new short-term courses, the state government has also focused to pave the way of unemployed Punjabi youth for better placements on national and international levels.

The minister held a meeting with Ms. Rajni Sekhri Sibal, IAS, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Government of India, to explore the chances of employment under the new skill development schemes in his office here today. Ms. Rajni briefed the minister about the various new short term courses which would be helpful in skilling the Youth and providing them job opportunities in India and abroad. She also presented a power point presentation (PPT) of the Skill India Agenda to throw light upon skill development schemes of Union government.

Mr. Charanjit Singh directed the officials of Punjab Skill Development Mission to prepare a detailed report of the probable short term courses of skill development which could boost the chances of employment for youth of Punjab.

He added that the government will also set up new skill centers across the state as per the requirement of the region which will enhance the national standards of skilling and chances of placements of skilled students.

He said that the training centers will benefit the youth of Punjab who are either school/college dropouts or unemployed and apart from training, the candidates shall be provided soft skills, entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy training.

The meeting was also attended by MP Singh, additional chief secretary of technical education department; Bhawna Garg, director Punjab Skill Development Mission and Rajat Aggarwal, MD Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC).
