Shilpotsav 2010 Concludes at Delhi Haat Artisans Sell Products worth Rs. 1.2 Crore

INVC,, Delhi,, Shilpotsav 2010, the 13-day long annual fair of Artisans from across the country, belonging to the weaker sections of the society, which began on 16th of this month at Dilli Haat in New Delhi, came to an end this evening. This year the sale as reported by artisans in 162 stalls crossed over Rs. 1.20 crore whereas last year during Shilpotsav 2009, the total sale in 197 stalls was over Rs. 80 Lakh. The increased sale this year shows a positive trend achieved by the artisans who put up quality products for display and sale. A footfall of over 55000 has been reported by the Delhi Haat authorities during the period as compared to 45000 visitors last year. During the 13-day long fair of arts and crafts, over 200 beneficiaries of various apex organization of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment participated in 162 stalls. ALIMCO and National Institutes also set up their stalls for welfare of disabled persons and persons belonging to disadvantaged group. The Closing Ceremony was presided over by the Minister of State Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri D. Napoleon. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister called upon the apex organizations of the Ministry to explore the possibility of organising such fairs at State level. He also said that the products are of top quality and efforts should be made to give exposure to these artisans in international markets. He applauded the efforts of the Artisans and also that of the apex organizations of the Ministry in successfully organizing this fair. The Cultural Programme was presented by the Disabled Persons from various organizations. This included a Wheel Chair Dance by artists of Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, Awara Bhavarein – a performance by artists from Tamanna Special School and song ‘Dasaavtaar’ by artists from National School of Blind. On this occasion, the Minister also gave away Awards to the best five Stalls set up at Shilpotsav. Another award was given to the beneficiary who achieved the highest sale. The beneficiaries were from the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC), National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), National Safai Karamcharies Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) , National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) , National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation & Multiple Disabilities. This is the fourth consecutive year of Shilpotsav. The Shilpotsav was started during the year 2007-08 by way of collaborating with all the Apex Corporations and National Institutes under the Ministry to provide marketing platform to artisans assisted by the Apex Corporations and the National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy etc. Beneficiaries sponsored by State Channelising Agencies (SCAs) of Apex Corporations and NGO Assisted by National Trust from 23 States/UTs participated in Shilpotsav-2010.
