It is a belief that all the preparations are done a day in advance for the mother’s bhog and on the day of Ashtami, stale food is offered to the mother goddess and after that there is a law to accept this prasad.

Basoda Ashtami

For this reason, this day is also known as Basoda Ashtami. The stove is not lit in the house on the day of Basoda. This festival is a sign of change of season. It is said that from this day onwards stale food should not be eaten otherwise it can cause harm.
