Mumbai : Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) President Sharad Pawar on Monday condemned the Centre’s decision to notify the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules. He said the move, just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, is tantamount to an attack on parliamentary democracy. Speaking to reporters, Pawar hit out at the Center over the CAA notification. He said that these rules have come just before the announcement of the schedule of Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May. The former Union minister said, ‘Such a decision just days before the announcement of Lok Sabha elections by the Election Commission of India (ECI) is an attack on parliamentary democracy. We condemn it.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said the CAA is being implemented because the ruling government realizes that there is no support wave in its favor ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He alleged, ‘Ram temple was inaugurated but the expected wave of support was not seen. Now, they are trying to create another wave by issuing CAA notification. Sometimes, they also try to polarize people on Hindu-Muslim issues. Raut claimed, ‘No matter how much communal or other kind of tension the central government creates, Narendra Modi will not become the Prime Minister again.
