New Delhi.  The Delhi GPO, Kashmere Gate Post Office, modernized under Project Arrow, was rededicated to the public by Smt. Radhika Doraiswamy, Secretary (Posts) here today. Under lining the importance of the project Smt Doraiswamy said that it will systematically transform post offices into vibrant and responsive business facilitators with a focus on social obligations.

Speaking on the occasion ,the Chief Post Master General Shri Gopinath said that objective of the transformation of Post offices under Project Arrow is to enhance service standards to the public. Commenting on the restored pristine glory of the building, he assured that the employees will also add to its beauty by serving with greater commitment, dedication and diligence.

The access to the building has been made disabled friendly and the counters and public area have been done up in order to give a uniform look as envisaged in Project Arrow.

The building housing the Delhi GPO was constructed in 1885 and represents the colonial style of architecture. The office has high ceiling with ventilators for natural light and fresh air. It has high, arched doors made of Burma teak. Behind the office, a structure predating the main building is still intact. From the ‘lakhoti’ bricks used, it is estimated that this structure must have been made prior to 1857. It is roughly located in the area where the then magazine storing ammunition was located.
