Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman does not hesitate to abandon his conservative traditions
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is set to visit Europe for the first time since the murder of well-known Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. According to Saudi media, bin Salman will visit France and Greece.
The crown prince has been criticized internationally since the 2018 killing of Khashoggi by government agents at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Europe has also been one of the outspoken critics of the act.
Bin Salman will hold discussions with the leaders of France and Greece to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields. Joe Biden visited Jeddah before bin Salman’s trip to Europe. In this visit, Saudi Arabia announced the opening of its airspace for civilian aircraft going to Israel. It is believed that bin Salman does not hesitate to abandon his orthodox traditions.
The departure of Prince Mohammed, isolated after Khashoggi’s assassination, to Europe is a very symbolic move. Bin Mohammed is now working with world leaders to persuade everyone on Khashoggi.
Turkey used to openly criticize Saudi Arabia for the murder of the journalist, but now Erdogan has changed his stance. Turkey has closed the trial of the journalist’s murder in its own country. After rising oil prices after the Russo-Ukraine war, the US and Europe have put pressure on Saudi to extract more oil. Due to the rise in oil prices, inflation in the US has increased to 40 percent. Biden has pressured the Saudi prince to cut oil prices in view of the mid-term elections. There can also be discussions about oil prices in Europe. PLC/GT
