Salman Khurshid Calls upon CAs to Function Like an Army to Conquer New Grounds across the World

Salman Khurshid, Minister of Corporate Affairs, has congratulated the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for completing 61 years. Addressing the 62nd Foundation Day celebration of the Institute, which falls under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, here today at Vigyan Bhawan, Shri Khurshid said that Chartered Accountants have brought great laurels to India and likened them to an efficient army ready to hoist the Indian Flag atop any height. He said that ICAI is a spiritual home of the entire profession and the nation is very proud of such an outstanding institution. Shri Khurshid called upon the Institute to include more women into the profession of Chartered Accountancy. He also released a book on ‘ Issues on Public Finance’.

Every year 1st of July is celebrated as the Foundation Day of ICAI as it was on this day in 1949 that the Parliament passed the Chartered Accountants Bill. Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha and the Guest of Honour at the celebration, Shri K. Rehman Khan said that the Chartered Accountancy profession has played a very important role in the economic growth of India during last 60 years. He expressed the view that the profession should not be restricted to audit the accounts of only the corporates or the business but should also be allowed to audit the public finance or the Government spending.

Giving Special Address Shri R. Bandyopadhyay, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, said that the Indian Chartered Accountants are among the best in the world and they have established their credentials even in the developed world. He said that we are proud of ICAI as it is giving enormous services to the entire corporate sector. Highlighting the qualities of the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India, the President of the Institute, Shri Amarjit Chopra, said that it is inspired by ethics and the desire to excel. He said that integrity and nonstop addition to skill sets will pave the path to the epitome of professional excellence.

A Panel Discussion on Revised Discussion Paper on Direct Taxes Code was also held on the occasion.
