Agent: A Review of the Latest Action Movie Starring Akhil Akkineni ,  After the massive success of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), director Surender Reddy has taken up the challenge of giving Akhil Akkineni a mass makeover with Agent. The movie is an action-packed thriller that follows the life of Ramakrishna, also known as Rikki or Wild Saala, played by Akhil Akkineni. Ramakrishna’s lifelong dream is to become a RAW agent, but despite his efforts, he has been rejected by the agency time and again. His inspiration and admiration for the RAW chief, Mahadev (played by Mammootty), drives him to keep striving towards his goal.

The story takes a turn when Mahadev finds himself pitted against a notorious group called the Syndicate, led by Dharma (played by Dino Morea), with the home minister Jaya Shankar being a crucial member of the group. The Syndicate is on the verge of activating ‘super cells,’ and Mahadev is determined to stop them at any cost. The rest of the film revolves around the battle between Mahadev and Dharma and the role that Ramakrishna plays in it.

Director Surender Reddy is known for his stylish and emotional action movies, but Agent falls short in comparison to his previous works. The emotional connection between the characters is absent, and when it does show up, it’s too weak and too late. However, the film more than makes up for it with its intense action scenes that keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

The acting performances in the film are noteworthy. Akhil Akkineni puts on a commendable performance in his action avatar, showcasing his hard work and dedication to the role. Mammootty looks every bit the part of a RAW chief, while Dino Morea delivers an impressive portrayal of the villain. We would love to see more of him in South Indian films. Sakshi Vaidya, in her debut film, plays the romantic interest of Akhil’s character, but her role is limited, and she doesn’t get enough screen time to connect with the audience.

The film’s cinematography by Rasool Ellore is impressive, and HipHop Tamizha’s songs are decent, although the background score is more impressive. Vakkantham Vamshi’s story follows a typical action movie pattern and doesn’t deviate from it.

The movie has drawn inevitable comparisons to the recent spy thriller Pathaan, but while Agent tries to capture all the elements of an international spy adventure, it flounders in several respects. The romantic angle between the two lead characters is underdeveloped and takes a backseat to the action sequences. The second half of the film, which reveals the backstory of the hero’s ‘Wild Saala’ identity, keeps the most necessary pointers till too late.

Overall, Agent falls somewhere between a typical Surender Reddy film and an Akhil Akkineni movie. It fails to truly belong to either zone and ends up as an average action film.

In conclusion, Agent is a watchable movie that delivers on its promise of action but falls short on its emotional and romantic elements. The movie is suitable for fans of the action genre and those who enjoy watching Akhil Akkineni on the big screen. While it may not rank high in terms of Surender Reddy’s previous works, it still makes for an enjoyable one-time watch.
