The lowering of poll percentage in the Moga bye poll has indicated that the people of Moga has not shown interest in the bye-election and had indirectly rejected the candidates, claims Sehajdhari Sikh Party chief Dr.P.S.Ranu. The Sehajdhari Sikh Party had appealed the voters to reject the candidate who betrayed them and had changed loyalties. Dr.Ranu said that this should be a big lesson for the ruling Party who has promoted a bad precedent of deflection and had imposed a great financial burden on the Public exchequer especially at a stage when the Govt. was stable and there was no threat to the Govt. This is a bad signal but the people of Moga had shown their lack of interest in this election which resulted in the low poll percentage. There are  approximately1,80,000 voters in Moga legislative constituency out of which 95,000 are males and 85,000 are females approximately.  Dr.Ranu said that the results may be any but the election seems to be only a prestige for the Akali Govt. but normal man had not appreciated the trend of this type of bye-poll under the law of deflection.  The Sehajdhari Sikh Party had previously requested the Election Commission of India to introduce section 49-O for ‘Right to Reject’ and to introduce special buttons in EVMs so as to maintain the secrecy of such voters who intend not to vote. Dr.Ranu has wriiten to the EC that the ruling Govt. has snatched away a representative of the Public (MLA) who was elected with great faith and emotions and this led to the situation of bye election under the deflection law. The people feet cheated with this type of practices, where their elected representatives are prone to kill the sentiments of the voters by shifting loyalties. At such stage, if due to some legal lacunas, the people are unable to teach them a lesson, then at least they should be given an opportunity to protest through some other legal procedure and our constitution has already provided it through rule 49 O of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.  Though the EC had not introduced any separate button for rejection in the EVM’s but the people of Moga had rejected the election and abstained from voting thus resulting to low turn out of poll percentage said Dr.Ranu.
