REC has committed financial assistance of nearly Rs. 3 crore under its CSR initiatives to Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack (SVNIRTAR), an autonomous Institute under the Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), for setting up of a state-of-the-art Modular Operation Theatre and other advanced medical equipment in the Institute for upgrading its infrastructure for locomotor rehabilitation services for patients with disabilities on account of Polio, Cerebral Palsy, congenital limb deformities and reconstructive surgeries for leprosy cured persons, etc. The tripartite Memorandum of Agreement was signed in New Delhi on 8th May 2014 by Shri P. J. Thakkar, Director (Technical), REC, Shri O.P. Dogra, Director, Department of Disability Affairs, MoSJE, and Shri R.N. Mohanty, Director, SVNIRTAR, ,  in the presence of Smt. Stuti Kacker, Secretary, Department of Disability Affairs, MoSJE, Shri Awanish Awsathi, JS, Department of Disability Affairs, MoSJE, Shri Rajeev Sharma, CMD, REC, Shri Ajeet Kumar Agarwal, Director (Finance), REC, besides other senior officials from REC and MoSJE.

The procurement of medical equipment will be monitored and supervised by a Project Monitoring Committee comprising of officers from Department of Disability Affairs, SVNIRTAR and REC, and the infrastructure is slated to be in place within this financial year, leading to SVNIRTAR becoming a Centre of Excellence of international standards.
