Railway revenue earnings up by 8.31 per cent during April- October 2009

New Delhi. The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April – 31st October 2009 were Rs. 48322.23 crore compared to Rs. 44614.15 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.31 per cent.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 30197.30 crore during 1st April – 31st October 2008 to Rs. 32452.79 crore during 1st April – 31st October 2009, an increase of 7.47 per cent.

The total passenger revenue earnings during first seven months of the financial year 2009-10 were Rs. 13626.74 crore compared to Rs. 12575.06 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8.36 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 1317.72 crore during April-October 2009 compared to Rs. 1127.54 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 16.87 per cent.

The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April-October 2009 were 4318.23 million compared to 4119.89 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.81 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-October 2009 were 2216.08 million and 2102.15 million compared to 2193.73 million and 1926.16 million during the same period last year, an increase of 1.02 per cent and 9.14 per cent respectively.
