kolkata : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recommenced his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in West Bengal after a two-day hiatus. The journey, which initially kicked off from Imphal, Manipur, on January 14, has captured the nation’s attention as it navigates through 110 districts spanning 15 states, culminating in Mumbai on March 20 or 21.

A Symbolic Pause

The brief interlude saw Rahul Gandhi’s return to New Delhi, strategically leveraging the break to rejuvenate the momentum. Congress state unit leader Subhankar Sarkar revealed that Rahul Gandhi, landing at Bagdogra airport in Siliguri, is now set to resume the yatra from Jalpaiguri, with an overnight halt planned near Siliguri. The journey’s trajectory includes Islampur in North Dinajpur district, a subsequent entry into Bihar, and a return to West Bengal via Malda on January 31, exiting the state on February 1 through Murshidabad.

Innovative Outreach: ‘Donate for Justice’ Campaign

What adds a distinctive flair to this leg of the journey is the ‘Donate for Justice’ campaign. Enabling supporters to contribute as little as one paisa per kilometer, this initiative blends philanthropy with political participation. The innovative donation system involves scanning a QR code, providing contributors with a range of incentives, from T-shirts bearing Rahul Gandhi’s signature to comprehensive assistance kits, all acknowledged with a certificate for contributions exceeding Rs 67,000.

Navigating Challenges: A Plea to Mamata Banerjee

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has penned a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, seeking her cooperation in ensuring the seamless progression of the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.’ The missive also emphasizes the paramount importance of guaranteeing the safety of Rahul Gandhi and other leaders, following reports of banners with Gandhi’s image being torn in Jalpaiguri. The Congress has voiced concerns about encountering obstacles in obtaining permissions for public meetings during the yatra.

Political Landscape: Trinamool’s Stand

A significant backdrop to this yatra is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement that the Trinamool Congress will contest the Lok Sabha elections independently in West Bengal, diverging from the opposition alliance Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (India). This declaration comes amidst a dynamic political scenario, with Congress navigating its path through the state’s political landscape.

Conclusion: A Journey of Significance

As the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ charts its course, it symbolizes more than a political campaign; it stands as a testament to the resilience and determination of political leaders. The ‘Donate for Justice’ initiative adds a humanitarian touch, encouraging participation beyond rhetoric. With its unique blend of outreach, challenges, and political nuances, this yatra promises to be a focal point in the political discourse, transcending geographical boundaries.
