Putin is encouraging women to have as many children as possible

The world is grappling with a growing population and resource crunch. Whereas in Russia the situation is different. President Vladimir Putin is encouraging the country’s women to have more children and for this he has announced awards to women.

In fact, the reason for this is the demographic crisis caused by the decline in the birth rate in Russia. On August 16, Russian President Putin has announced the resumption of the award for the ‘Mother Heroine’ of the Soviet era. The award was first instituted in 1944 by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in the wake of massive population losses during World War II. But after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, this honor was stopped.

According to the order issued by Putin, eligible mothers will be awarded a lump sum amount of 1 million rubles (approximately 13,12,000 or 16,000) after their 10th surviving child turns one year old.

The order also stated that the mother would still be eligible if she lost any of her children in war or as a result of a terroristic act or emergency situation. The title of Mother Heroine is considered to be on a level similar to that of high-ranking state orders such as Hero of Russia and Hero of Labor. PLC/GT
