PSPB to Give away about Rs Nine Crore as Prize Money : Murli Deora

The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Chief Patron, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Shri Murli Deora has congratulated the Indian players on their historic achievement by winning 38 Gold medals, 27 Silver medals and 36 Bronze medals and putting India in 2nd position in the XIX Commonwealth Games (CWG) held in Delhi in October 03-14, 2010. “This is indeed a proud moment for the entire nation and its sportspersons”, he added.

He further stated that about 50 sportspersons of PSPB represented India in the CWG 2010. “It is a matter of pride for PSPB that their sportspersons bagged 4 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals and 6 Bronze medals in these games,” Shri Deora said.

In a statement on the conclusion of the CWG 2010 here today, he stated that Oil Industry is committed to promote the sports through PSPB. For their stellar performance, the Indian medal winners will get a total prize money of about Rs nine crore in line with the announcement made by Shri Deora at the commencement of CWG 2010 on opening day to further motivate Indian sportspersons. He had announced Rs 10 lakhs for Gold medal, Rs 7.5 Lakhs for Silver medal and Rs 5 lakhs for Bronze medal.

MOS(PNG) and Patron, PSPB Shri Jitin Prasada while congratulating Indian sportspersons on their excellent performance in CWG 2010 stated that PSPB is committed to develop sports in the country by setting up academies such as for Archery which is currently under progress. Petroleum Secretary and Chairman PSPB Shri S Sundareshan also said that PSPB being a leading sports body of the country, will further strengthen its role for development of sports in India. CMD ONGC and President PSPB Shri R S Sharma said that oil industry will continue playing a vital in development of sports through recruitment and sponsorship of talented sportspersons and through building academies. He also wished Indian contingent all the very best in the forthcoming Asian Games to be held in China from November 13 and hoped that their record breaking performances will continue there also.
