Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the coronation of the new Maharaja is a wonderful moment for our country

A special public holiday has been declared in Britain to mark the coronation of Maharaja Charles III. His coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey in London during a 3-day event from 6 May next year. After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her son Charles, 73, was proclaimed King of Britain.

Significantly, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was also declared a public holiday. Britain’s new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, the coronation of the new Maharaja is a wonderful moment for our country.

On this historic occasion, I am pleased to announce an additional public holiday for the whole of the UK next year. After the announcement of this holiday, there will now be three long weekends in May next year. May 1 and May 29 are already public holidays. PLC/GT
