President Draupadi Murmu to visit Suriname and Serbia from June 4

President Draupadi Murmu will be on a visit to Suriname and Serbia from June 4 to 9. This will be his first state visit after assuming the office of the President in July last year. The Ministry of External Affairs said that in the first phase, the President will be in Paramaribo from June 4 to 6 under the control of Chandrika Prasad Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname. On June 5.

President Murmu will be the chief guest at the celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in Suriname. The President will hold bilateral talks with her Suriname counterpart Santokhi. She will also visit places of historical and cultural significance and interact with members of the Indian community and the diaspora.

In the second leg of his visit, President Murmu will be visiting Serbia from June 7 to 9. She is going there at the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. During her two-day visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral meetings with President Vucic of Serbia and meet Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Speaker of the National Assembly Vladimir Orlic, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs. The President will also address a business event and interact with the Indian community and friends of India.

Significantly, Murmu’s visit to Suriname will be his first state visit after assuming office last year. The President’s visit to Suriname will further add to the ongoing momentum in bilateral relations following the visit of President Santokhi to India in January 2023.
