Haryana Governor, Mr.Jagannath Pahadia today called upon the students to continuously enhance their skills and knowledge and be a socially useful person.
The Governor who was speaking at the first convocation of YMCA University of Science and Technology in Faridabad today congratulated the teachers, students and the staff members for building outstanding reputation of the university.
Chief Minister Mr. Hooda called upon the students to find creative solutions to the problems, by enhancing their skills and knowledge and come up with affordable innovations. Mr. Hooda said that present India is a young India and this should be converted into a skilled India . Former Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi visualized a stronger and more prosperous India in the 21st century and our youth have to effectively participate in the ongoing progress story of the world.
Mr. Hooda said that his government has given utmost priority to the promotion of education and particularly the technical education, for which government plans to invest Rs. 171 crore. The state today has 21 universities and 1286 institutions of higher education. In the last six years, 430 technical institutions have been set up in the state, raising their number to 596, including Engineering Colleges , MBA Colleges , MCA Colleges , B. Pharma Colleges, Polytechnics and ITI’s. The intake capacity of these institutions has also been increased to 1.24 lakh from 25000, he said. Haryana today is emerging as an Education hub, with IIM, a Central University , A National Defence University, 4 new Medical Colleges and Rajiv Gandhi education city, besides a member of other institutions.
Congratulating the new University on holding its first convocation, Mr. Hooda said that starting as Diploma Institute in 1969, it has blossomed into one of the leading technical institutes of the country. Today, this university is poised to enhance the scope of its activities and contribute significantly to the techno-economic growth of the country by training engineers and managers, who are giving high level performance in the industry in various capacities both in India and Abroad. It is a matter of great satisfaction that the University is successfully running M.Tech and Ph.D programmes in various subjects.
The Vice Chancellor of the university Mr. Mohinder Kumar said that the university is presently offering B.tech courses in ECE, EIC, EC, CS, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engg; M.Tech in Computers, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics; MCA, M.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics; MBA and Ph.D, with total strength of around 2500 students, out of which more than 30 per cent constitute girl students. The University has had remarkable placements year after year in the renowned companies. The alumni of this University are today holding prominent positions both in India and abroad.
Governor’s Gold Medal and Chief Minister’s Gold Medal were also given to outstanding student of the University Ms. Ekta Sachdev, which carried Rs. 51000 each. Vice Chanceller’s Gold Medal was bagged by Ms. Megha Bhatia getting Rs. 51000. Outstanding students of the University were also honoured with shields.
Degrees were presented at the convocation. Mr. Jagannath Pahadia was the Chief Guest. The function was presided over by the Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Vice Chanceller of the University Mr. Mohinder Kumar conferred the B.tech and M.tech degrees to the successful students in different streams. Among the dignitaries present on this occasion, included Mr. Mahender Pratap Singh, Revenue Minister of Haryana, Mr. Shiv Charan Lal Sharma, Labour and Employment Minister, Mr. Avtar Singh Bhadana, MP, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, Ms. Sharda Rathore and Mr. Jaleb Khan, MLAs Mr. Anand Kaushik and Mr. Raghuveer Tewatia, besides Vice Chancellers of Guru Jambeshwar University, Dr. M.L. Ranga, Dr. D.D.S. Sandhu, Vice Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Dr. Mrs. Pankaj Mittal, Vice Chancellor of Bhagat Phool Singh Women University and Dr. K.C. Bhardwaj Vice Cancellor of Ch. Devi Lal University.
The Convocation function started with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, the Chief Minister and others. The dignitaries were also presented shawls and mementos.
Earlier, the Governor Mr. Pahadia and the Chief Minister Mr. Hooda inaugurated the Kalpana Chawla Girls Hostel and Netaji Subhash Chander Bose Teaching Block in the campus of the University.
