Philosophical vocalist Rashid Khan enthralls the audience at Tagore.

The third day of the ongoing 3rd Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival unfastened with Ustad Rashid Khan Performance at Tagore theatre here today. The beautiful evening saw the genre from different walks of life. The chief guest of the evening was Sh Urvashi Gulati, Chief Secretary of Haryana who inaugurated the evening in the presence of Sh.Ram Niwas Home Secretary Chandigarh Administration and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration. Ustaad Rashid Khan of “aaoge jab tum sajan fame” is from the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana and has been known for his amazing rendition of taans, husky voice and a unique style of inducing the feel and melody in the artwork.

He opened the evening with the exposition of raag Puriya dhaneshari through a reposeful alaap .He was accompanied by Muraad Ali Khan on Sarangi, Shubhankar Banerjee on Tabla, Vinay Mishra on Harmonium, Parvez Khan on Sawarmandal and Nadeem Khan on Tanpura. With his amazing performance the mood and pleasure of rendering a flawless eternal alaap proved to be a divine. He presented a composition in vilambat lya and ek taal, dolling put sargams to embellish the raga.later he sang bandish in Dhrut lya and more compositions.

An excellent performance by Ustad Rashid Ali Khan created a musical atmosphere in Tagore Theatre and the intrusive audiences were spellbound by his performance. Music has no religion and boundaries was eloquently proved when the Ustad performed “aaoge jab tum sajana”  and the entire audience sang along.

Some of his hits from album are the raga basant, bihag and hansdhwani. Most of the compositions are in madhya (medium) or drut (fast) laya (rythm) thus more receptive to the youngsters or the more eager awaiting some action. Rashid gave his first performance at the age of eleven, in 1977. In 1979, he performed at the ITC Sangeet Sammmelan at New Delhi. He has not looked back since and his growing popularity has been reflected in his increasing participation in all well known music conferences in India and extensive tours the world over.

On the fourth day of 3rd Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival, a renowned bharatnatyam dancer Vani Ganpathy shall perform at 6.30 pm at Tagore Theatre.
