Health Minister Dr. Raghu Sharma said that people must adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent cardiovascular diseases. He said that apart from normal exercise, traditional exercises like cycling and swimming should be included in the daily routine to avoid heart-related diseases.

Heart Disease is the leading cause of death globally

Dr. Sharma addressing the valedictory function of the cycle marathon ‘CSI Tour De Royal Rajasthan’ organized by Cardiological Society of India (CSI) on the occasion of World Heart Day on Wednesday. He said that cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally. He said that every year an estimated 17.9 million people die from this disease. More than four out of five CVD deaths are due to heart attacks and strokes and one-third of these deaths occur in people under the age of 70 years.

Commendable Efforts of Doctors

The Health Minister said that organizing a cycle marathon by the cardiologists is a praiseworthy step to create awareness among people towards heart-related diseases. A large number of the general public along with doctors took part in this marathon, which is inspiring. He said that all of us should take a pledge to make this effort of doctors successful so that the number of heart patients is reduced and the Chief Minister’s dream of Nirogi Rajasthan (Healthy Rajasthan) is fulfilled.

Organized in many cities of the State

Cardiological Society of India vice president and marathon convener Dr. G.L.Sharma said that the cycle marathon in Jaipur took off from Jaipur Medical Association (JMA), SMS Medical College. The marathon went to Patrika Gate and concluded at JMA, SMS College. He said that the cycle marathon was organised at Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bikaner, Ajmer and Kota on World Heart Day.

Health Minister felicitates best performers

Health Minister Dr. Raghu Sharma felicitated the best performing participants by garlanding them and presenting them with medals. Non-Doctors and Doctors category participants were felicitated. Apart from state champions, best-performing cyclists across the country in the bikers’ category took part in this marathon.

Home secretary Shri Abhay Kumar also took part in the valedictory function. He also felicitated cyclists by encouraging them. He complimented all for this event organized on World Heart Day.
