Parliamentary Consultative Committee of Chemicals and Fertilisers Ministry meets

INVC,, The Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers met here today under the chairmanship of the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri Srikant Jena. The Committee supported the Jan Aushadhi Campaign running by the government. The members suggested the need of an effective mechanism to check the quality control and supply of generic medicines. The Minister of State said that government is taking all possible measures to provide good quality medicines in affordable price under Jun Aushadhi scheme. Members also urged the government to ensure early approval of the National Pharma Policy. They said this is required to ensure availability of medicines at affordable prices. Shri Jena said that several steps have been taken to ensure price stability. The Members also expressed their concern over the issue of spurious drugs. The Committee was informed that government is committed to the quick revival of fertilizers units and it is considering the feasibility of revival of closed plants of the Fertilizer Corporation of India and the Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation. Members were of the opinion that monitoring mechanism be made more effective to ensure smooth distribution of fertilizers at state level. The members were also informed that the Government has taken initiatives in the field of Plastics Waste management. Members of Parliament who attended today’s meeting include Shri. Om Prakash Mathur, Shri, Raja Ram, Dr. Mahendra Prasad, Shri Sreegopal Vyas, Smt. Darshnaben Jardosh, Shri Premdas Katheria, Shri Jagdish Sharma, Shri, Dr. G. Vivekanand and Shri Tarachand Bhagora.
