Outstanding for investors : Top industrialists shower praise on West Bengal at India Today Conclave East
INVC NEWS Kolkata,
Mukesh Ambani has called West Bengal under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "Best Bengal". What do three other top industrialists -- Sanjiv Goenka, Sanjay Budhia, and Harshavardhan Neotia -- make of that assessment?
"Quite honestly, Bengal is outstanding for an investor," said Goenka, the chairman of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, at the India Today East Conclave 2018 today. "And I personally have put 21,000 crores of investments in the last five years in the state."
"There's not been a single day's delay. There has been complete support from the West Bengal government and administration at every level," Goenka said. "So the experience has been absolutely outstanding. And I can't say this for any other state that I operate in."
Sanjay Budhia, the MD of Patton Group, also heaped praise on West Bengal.
"We run five plants here. We have about 2,500 people, and we have never lost [an] hour in a strike or a lockout," he said.
"And very recently, we put up another plant...we never had to go to any department for any license...everything is online and in line..."
Pointing to Mukesh Ambani's praise, Ambuja Neotia Group chairman Harshavardhan Neotia said, "There is no further endorsement that I think I can give to this topic."
"We are absolutely a product of this place. We have lived all our life here. Our families have been here for several generations," he said, referring to himself and his two co-panelists.
"And I think, therefore, in a sense, there is a mix of both [business] opportunity and emotional investment."
"When we look at Bengal, it cannot be isolated from that very strong emotional bond that we share with the state."
'LEFT DIDN'T WANT INVESTMENT'
Goenka said there was "no investment" during 34 years of the Left. "And the Left didn't want investment".
"That image is beginning to get corrected -- by these investors' summits, by these roadshows that the chief minister and the finance minister do", he said.
When West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee speaks, it's "H2H", said Sanjay Budhia. "Heart-to-heart".
"People talk of B2B -- business-to-business -- or P2P -- people-to-people -- but for her, it is H2H, that is heart-to-heart. She wins peoples' hearts," he said.
