Pune,
The Lifeline Express – the world’s first hospital on a train – having medically served one million disabled persons in rural India, has completed 100,000 surgeries since its inception. The services of the Lifeline Express include surgeries for the restoration of sight, movement, hearing, correction of facial deformities with prevention and treatment of epilepsy and dental problems – all free of cost, made possible by the ‘donated’ services of about 200,000 medical professionals from India and abroad.

The Lifeline Express is a recipient of numerous accolades including the United Nations’ Grand Award for Excellence in Public Service, and has been honoured by the Government of India with the release of a National Postage stamp. This project has been replicated by four Lifeline Express trains in China, two in South Africa and Riverboat hospitals in Bangladesh and Cambodia.

On this occasion, Impact India Foundation  thanks the Indian Railways, its well-wishers and friends for their generous support in terms of  sponsorships and  donations of professional skills which have helped reach this present level of service to those in need.

Impact India Foundation was launched by the Government of India on 2nd October 1983, against a Government Order in response to a United Nations’ General Assembly Resolution. Its aim is to act as a catalyst to bring together the corporate sector, NGOs, professionals and the community to work in support of the Government’s National health priorities, using existing infrastructure and available delivery systems. Since then Impact is active in 20 countries.
