Scientists created oxygen from the atmosphere of Mars
On Mars we will no longer need to carry oxygen from Earth. The US space agency NASA has succeeded in making oxygen from the atmosphere of Mars itself.
According to NASA, with the help of the Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE), scientists have started producing oxygen on Mars itself. With this oxygen, the availability of oxygen for the astronauts on future Mars missions will be done from the atmosphere of the house itself.
Actually, winter is at its peak on Mars right now. According to NASA, MOXIE sent to Mars has succeeded in making oxygen due to the relatively high atmospheric pressure on cold nights. MOXIE succeeded in producing more oxygen by producing more carbon dioxide than being produced at the highest air density due to cold.
At present, this machine is producing oxygen at the rate of about 10.5 grams per hour. According to scientists, a human needs oxygen at the rate of 21 grams per hour to survive. Meaning that twice as much oxygen as this machine is producing is enough to keep a human alive. NASA is very excited about producing oxygen on Mars.
To keep a human crew of four to six astronauts alive from the surface of Mars and in orbit, NASA will have to produce oxygen at 2 to 3 km per hour. Although the machine is currently working in the initial phase, but according to NASA, an advanced version of this machine can achieve this target.
To make that much oxygen, 25 kW of power would be required and MOXIE is producing only 100 watts of power, so NASA believes that the advanced version can achieve this goal.
