Odisha’s demand to create additional 90,000 MTs of capacity will be assessed by his Ministry on priority basis : Prof. K.V. Thomas
Center will depute a high level committee to Odisha very soon to assess its foodgrain storage requirements and all possible assistance will be provided to the States for modernization of PDS. This was stated by Prof. K.V. Thomas, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution while having discussions with Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Orissa here about PDS issues. Prof. Thomas said that his Ministry is taking all possible measures to create additional storage capacity throughout the country, various schemes of subsidy and incentives have been initiated. He said that Odisha’s demand to create additional 90,000 MTs of capacity will be assessed by his Ministry on priority basis. The Minister said that he has requested the State to ensure timely lifting of PDS foodgrains so that more allocation can be made to the States. Chief Minister of Odisha suggested extension of time for receiving Custom Milled Rice for Kharif Marketing Season, more incentives to the State Civil Supplies Corporation for bulk procurement for paddy and inclusion of Gajapati district in the list of poorest districts of the country.
