A meeting of the Board of Governors of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports was organized here today under the Chairmanship of Minister of State (Independent charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Sarbananda Sonowal.
Later interacting with the media persons, Director General, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Major General Dilawar Singh said that NYKS is a unique organization having a very wide youth club network which deserves to be given appropriate attention, motivation and skills to the youth empowering them and to make them contribute meaningfully towards Nation Building. He informed that there were numerous challenges affecting the functioning of the organization which have remain unresolved for decades. The need to address the needs of the youth of this nation deserve much greater attention and the Board has resolved to address these challenges is planned and prioritized manner.
Major General Singh also informed that NYKS will observe International Day of Yoga across the country with a theme “Yoga for Harmony and Peace. He told that mega State Level observance of International Day of Yoga will be few of the State Capitals viz, Lucknow, Patna, Kolkata and Guwahati wherein a large number of trained youth will learn and practice Yoga. Lectures by experts on different aspects of yoga would be organized during the Youth Convention being held at more than 550 district Headquarters. He further informed that NYKS is intending to mobilize two crore youth to participate in yoga camps across the country to demonstrate its vast network and ability to mobilize youth for purposeful activities across the nation.
Major General Singh told to media that besides its regular programme NYKS will launch Youth Leadership Development Programme “EK SAAL DESH KE NAAM”. The mission of the programme is to sensitize the youth towards various social challenges and provide them opportunities to develop leadership qualities for meaningful contribution to Nation Building.
Major General Singh told that NYKS has also proposed to involve youth for creating awareness about Ganga cleaning and participating in numerous activities related to Ganga cleaning Ganga Vahini comprising trained and motivated cadres from local village youth volunteers need to be created. He informed that a MOU between NYKS and National Mission for Clean Ganga has been signed in this regard recently,
Major General Singh informed that NYKS is focusing on North East States wherein NYKS recently organized North East Youth Festival at Majuli on theme Youth for Environment Heritage & Culture. This festival was attended by youth from all the North East States and selected representatives from across the country wherein the Chairperson of NYKS had announced establishment of a training centre at Majuli, Jorhat, Assam which will cater to the training needs of youth of North Eastern States.
Major General Singh also mentioned that NYKS is preparing a vision documents, short, mid and long tested objectives and plans. Besides creating a system that would enable monitoring, evaluation and refining of the programmes so as to enhance effectiveness and outreach of the programs of NYKS. The needs of the youth and emerging realities, changed circumstances and evolving imperatives are being formed into evolution of New need fulfilling more purposeful programs.
He mentioned that the major challenges of infrastructure and Human resource inequalities have been identified and will be addressed in a planned manner.
