The Delhi cabinet recently decided to operationalize over 100 existing e-bus fleet of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and additional 380 feeder e-buses under the transport department. Delhi Metro has been operating feeder e-buses from Shastri Park and Majlis Park depots in East and North clusters since December 2019.

The transport department will run these buses through the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS). In addition, six new stations namely Welcome, Kohat Enclave, Rithala, Nangloi, Mundka and Dwarka have been identified to operate additional 380 electric buses. DMRC will construct bus depots at these places. The Transport Department will operate all these feeder buses on per km basis, under which the operators will be paid according to the distance covered by them.

The Delhi government had got route rationalization done to strengthen the last mile connectivity. The first phase started in October 2022 under which standard (12 meter) buses were introduced at a frequency of 5 to 20 minutes during peak hours on 26 new routes. The use of mini or midi buses was recommended on narrow roads.

Delhiites will be given better facilities
Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhiites will be provided with affordable, safe and convenient facilities. After the good response and success of route rationalization implementation, now these new electric feeder buses will make last mile connectivity more convenient for the people. Buses will be increased on the basis of need. It is our endeavor that all the new buses being added in the city should be electric to make public transport completely pollution free. PLC/GT
