NIIFT Students Showcase their Fashion Proficiency at ‘Anukama 13’

All set to join the fashion industry, the graduating students of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT), Mohali today showcased their creative talent through –‘Anukama 13’-an Annual Design Collection fashion show held at Tagore Theater here this evening. Versatile outfits designed especially for theme-based sequences by NIIFT, Mohali students, were gracefully portrayed by professional models as they walked down the ramp. Chief Guest Sh. Karan A Singh I.A.S., Chairman NIIFT and Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab graced the occasion to encourage the students and gave away awards to the winners. Sh. Vikas Pratap, I.A.S. Director General, NIIFT, Mohali and Director Industries & Commerce, Punjab presided over the function. Other present during the occasion were Sh. Vishav Bandhu, Director, NIIFT, Sh. Inderjit Singh, Registrar, Ms. Poonam Thakur, Academic Head, Dr. Simrita Singh, Show Coordinator and all faculty and staff from NIIFT, Mohali, Ludhiana & Jalandhar. The show was a success with ramp dazzling with the designer outfits worn by some of the renowned models like Neha, Hida, Meenakshi Baliyan, Divya, Priya and Amanpreet Wahi to name a few. Male models were Ricky, Aman, Gurfateh, Pradeep, and Manish. Students created mesmerizing collection following various themes. It was choreographed by renowned choreographer, Kaushik Ghosh and the venue was Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh. Every collection had a unique inspirational source behind them. Drawing inspiration from magnified shapes, digital printing, ice-cream cones and Sundays, the sport of hockey-the students experimented with technology, non-conventional material, color palettes, silhouettes and fabrics in their collections. ‘Anukama ‘13’ was a design collection show where three years of thorough training and six months of diligent preparation were presented. Each student of Fashion Design Department individually had worked on a theme and presented five ensembles related to that theme. The students of NIIFT, Mohali are specially trained to solve problems and undertake explorations relating to latest technology, raw materials and processes to develop creative collections. The show presented a rich blend of lovely 38 collections designed by talented and creatively thinking fashion graduates from Mohali and Ludhiana centres. These young students came up with fabulous collections ranging high on style quotient from very wearable to the most experimental ones. The students also had creatively used woven, knits, rib, woolen blends, khadi, silk, cotton, appliqué work, digital printing, to enhance the creativity of their themes and collection. The themes of Anukama-2013 was Save Girl Child and collection named “Let there be light (every new born baby is God’s opinion that the world should go on) is taken from the Bible” made by Ms. Mamta Sethi. It means God gave us light to follow Him by observing His creation and realizing the light is good. She represented girl as a symbol of light but because of some cruel people, her light gets wrapped.

Themes of other award winning collections:-

  • Best Design Collection award from NIIFT Mohali was given to Ms. Anusha Aijaz. Theme of the collection was ‘SEMINOLI INDIAN’ – her concept is based on a tribe of Florida , Seminoli Indian. Its based on a tradition of patchwork garments. Similarly, from NIIFT, Ludhiana award was given to Ms.Harpinder Kaur for her collection theme “Shell Treasure”.
  • Most Creative Collection award from NIIFT, Mohali was shared by two students; Ms. Saloni Ahuja and Ms. Neelam Pari. The theme of Ms. Saloni Ahuja’s collection was “ NEOPLASTICISM” – The culture determined form is approaching its end and the culture of determined relation has begun. Theme of Ms. Neelam Pari was “COSTA-NOSTRA” – it is a collection inspired from the mafias. Use of leather is done to represent boldness. Similarly, from NIIFT, Ludhiana this award was given to Ms. Neha for her collection theme “Rejuvenate”
  • Most Commercial Collection award was given to Mr. Harish for his collection “ELEPHANT FESTIVAL.” His garments are all hand painted with minute details of the motifs and designs inspired from the elephant festival and shri ganesh.
  • Most Innovative use of Crafts Award was given to Ms. Amrita Kaur Sandhu. Theme of her collection was “KATHPUTLI”- it is about the Kathputlis of Rajasthan and the collection is inspired from the motifs of the Kathputlis like the Moustaches, Turbans, Prints and Mirror work,etc.
  • The best creative Collection award was shared by two students; Ms. Taranjit for her Theme–‘GALAXY” and Ms. Rajshree for her theme of collection “REDLION FISH” where surfaces of her garments are created keeping in mind the scales in fish, their color, structure and tails.

The award winning Collections were honored with Certificate, Trophy and a Cash Prize of Rs.5000/-.

Best Student Award : Ms. Shikha, student of FD-VI, NIIFT, Mohali and Ms. Harpinder Kaur, FD-VI, NIIFT, Ludhiana were declared as Best Students and awarded Certificate with Best Student Trophy.
