The Union Home Ministry has submitted the details of over 10.69 lakh sex offenders in the country. The information of these criminals is readily available whenever law enforcement agencies need to investigate new cases of such crimes.
According to the ministry’s annual report for 2020-21, the National Sex Offenders Database (NDSO) has data on more than 10.69 lakh sex offenders in the country, enabling investigating officers to track habitual sex offenders and take precautionary measures against such perpetrators. Helps to lift.
The database contains information on all sex offenders who have been convicted of rape, gang rape, harassment of women and under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. According to the report, it contains details like names, addresses, photographs, identity cards, fingerprints etc. of the criminals. it states
“NDSO is available round the clock to all law enforcement agencies and helps in background verification and quick identification in cases of sexual offenses.”
