National Microfinance Conference 2011 organised by Sa-Dhan and FICCI Day 2

INVC,, Delhi,, The National Microfinance Conference 2011 organised by Sa-Dhan and FICCI continued its deliberations on the issues facing the microfinance sector on the second day. Keeping with this year’s theme of “Re-engineering microfinance: Need for new products and policies” the issues facing the SHG model and the need for reinventing the Self Help Groups (SHG) model were discussed in detail. Participants pointed out that interference of the subsidy driven programmes of the government and the apathy of the banks towards the SHGs are among the important issues facing the SHG model. “Per capita loan from banks to SHG members is too low ” said Mr LH Manjunath Excecutive Director SKDRP.  Changes in the government policies, simplifying record keeping with the help of technology and capacity building of the groups as well as their federations were some of the solutions proposed for improving the SHG model.
