The Minister of Food Processing Industries, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai has said that his Ministry provided assistance amounting 60 crore rupees to over 200 entrepreneurs. Another 200 more entrepreneurs will be added by September this year. Speaking at the Entrepreneurs Meet on “Emerging Innovative Technologies for Competitiveness in Food Processing Sector” held in New Delhi he said this would consume more than two third of the Ministry’s Budget. He also stated with a view to promote setting up of Food Processing Units in the North East Regional Managers of banks located in the region have been delegated powers for speedy submission of application forms.

Speaking at the function he said, the technological gap for post harvest management of agricultural produce is resulting in huge amount of wastage. He said, about ten integrated cold chain projects are under implementation and another 25 are likely to come up shortly.

The Minister also said, the Ministry has already set up National Meat and Poultry Processing Board and Indian Grape Processing Board. It is contemplating to set up National Fisheries Processing Board, National Soya Processing Board and National Guargum Processing Board.

Shri Ashok Sinha, Secretary said such meets would provide right platforms to discuss developments and trends in food processing. Opportunity to share knowledge and experiences for advancement of food processing industry would also emerge and encourage investment in food processing sector.

The Meet was attended by progressive entrepreneurs from the food processing industries, representatives from various food processing units assisted by Ministry of Food Processing Industries under its Central Plan Schemes.
