Mountaineering Expedition to MT. Kamet (7757 M)

INVC,, Delhi,, The Indian Air Force Mountaineering Expedition to the twin peak of Mt. Kamet (7757m) and Mt. Abi Gamin (7354m) was flagged-in today at Air HQ, New Delhi by the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal PK Barbora. The team of 35 mountaineers included eight women officers aspiring for Mt Everest in 2011, two Army personnel and four personnel from Bangladesh Air Force. Two teams of three members each, successfully summited these peaks of Garhwal Himalayas on May 13. Amongst the women officers attempting the peaks as part of their pre-Everest event, Flight Lieutenant Nividita summited Mt Kamet and Squadron Leader Nirupama summited Mt Abi Gamin. Several IAF expeditions have been mounted since 2009 to train the IAF women Mountaineering team for Mt. Everest expedition, slated in 2011. This was the third expedition for the team after Mt. Stok Kangri (6153m) in Aug 2009 and Mt Bhagirathi-II (6512m) in Sep-Oct 2009. 0000
