Days after AAP’s senior leadership appeared divided over the pre-poll alliance with TMC more AAP leaders including a founding member of the party in Punjab have quit the party and joined the TMC under Jagmeet Singh Brar’s leadership.
After a meeting held earlier today in Chandigarh two senior AAP leaders, Gurmail Singh and Manpreet Singh have joined the TMC along with a large number of volunteers.
Manpreet Singh is one of the founder members of AAP in Punjab and led the party’s Mission Vistaar campaign in Mohali and Gurmail Singh was incharge of Aap Ka Daan in Garhshankar. These new joinings are being seen as a reflection of the rising opinion among grassroots workers and AAP leadership in favor of an alliance with the TMC for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections.
In a joint press release issued by these former AAP leaders they said “We have left the AAP to join the TMC because we feel the ideals and principles of the party have been compromised and the movement is being taken over by personal interest and private ambitions of a few people. We are sure that under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Jagmeet Singh Brar our dream of giving Punjab a clean and progressive government will come true”
Jagmeet Brar welcomed the breakaway faction and said “I welcome Gurmail & Manpreet and all the committed volunteers who have placed their faith in the TMC with open arms and promise them that the ideals and values that they have worked day and night for will never be compromised – they will be given their due respect and their voice will find the right platform”
He added “The TMC is fast emerging as a common platform for like minded people who want to work together to bring real change in Punjab.”
Brar also confirmed that he submitted a list of potential candidates to the central leadership of the party on the 26th in Delhi and said “We are hoping that this alliance will take place and that the national leadership of AAP will not allow short term personal ambition and insecurity of a few to derail our common efforts to uproot Rajwadashahi & Parivarwaad from Punjab – TMC’s doors are open to anyone who wants to join this fight for Punjab’s future.”
He concluded by saying “We have a common goal and a common ideology so the need of the hour is that we must work together and give each other strength where the other side is weak. Muthi Band Rahe Toh Taakat Badhti Hai”
A senior TMC leader who was also present at the joining ceremony confirmed that the party was evaluating all potential candidates and that if the alliance did not materialize soon the party may release its first list of candidates in the coming days.
Former Minister & Veteran MLA Dr Harbans Lal, TMC Youth leaders Gautambir Singh & Amarjeet Singh and recently joined former AAP Leaders Jashandeep Singh & Baljeet Singh were also present at the ceremony.
