Milestone of electrifying 13,000 villages achieved

Ministry of Power, government of India has achieved a remarkable milestone of electrifying more than 13,000 villages out of the 18,452 un-electrified villages. As on 6th April 2017 a total of 13,174 villages have been electrified under the DeenDayalUpadhyay Gram JyotiYojna (DDUGJY). The target has now been set to electrify the balance 4,441 villages by 1st May 2018. Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd. (REC) is the nodal agency for implementation of DDUGJY.  The scope of the scheme includes separation of agriculture and non-agriculture feeders facilitating judicious supply to agricultural and no-agricultural consumer in the rural areas. In addition to this strengthening and augmentation of sub-transmission & distribution (ST&D) infrastructure in rural areas, including metering at distribution transformers, feeders and consumers end also fall under this scheme.
