Posts of six members including Vice-Chairperson in the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) are falling vacant by end-September/early-October, 2010. NDMA is a statutory body established under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 for laying down policies, plans and guidelines for disaster management for ensuring timely and effective response to disasters arising from natural and manmade causes. The Authority has nine Members including a Vice-Chairperson. The Prime Minister of India is the ex-officio Chairperson of the NDMA.
