Maccau-2M.M.Khanna, INVC, Chandigarh, The Macau Government Tourist Office along with the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Tourism Administration of Guangdong province recently organized a FAM trip for trade partners to the Pearl River Delta area in China – Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau. The initiative was a part of MGTO’s joint promotional activities with Guangdong and Hong Kong to help boost Indian arrivals to the region. The trip showcased the uniqueness of each destination to the participants besides educating them about the variety of cultures, entertainment and events that these destinations offer throughout the year.  Participants included 14 travel agents from 6 cities across India – Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. MGTO engaged the guests in guided tours during the trip and gave them an opportunity to experience a variety of tourist attractions in the region. The 6-day trip also helped update participants with latest information on the tourism business products that the region offers. “We firmly believe in giving the first-hand experiences of our varied attractions to trade partners in our target markets. It gives us an opportunity to let them inspect our tourism products and guarantee them increased sales. Macau, clubbed along with Guangdong and Hong Kong, provides excellent touring itineraries and our joint promotional campaigns with these destinations will help us sell Macau successfully in India,” said MGTO India Representative, SanJeet. Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau are interconnected to each other and are easily accessible by road, sea and air. There are ferry services from Hong Kong and Macau to some coastal cities in Guangdong as well as coach services from both the special administrative regions. It is also connected to Hong Kong by train services from the city to Shenzhen and Guangzhou, respectively. Indian nationals travelling to Hong Kong and Macau do not require a visa; however, it is required for entering the Peoples Republic of China. Visa facilitation has been created for entries of ordinary passport holders of nations with diplomatic relations with China should they wish to enter Guangdong via Hong Kong or Macau. The 144-hour visa free policy is introduced to facilitate the regional travel of the Pearl River Delta which requires a group to have 3–40 travellers to enter or leave Guangdong together. The Pearl River Delta is considered as one of the leading economic regions and a major manufacturing center of China and the world. MGTO in association with the other two Tourism Boards took the opportunity to arrange the FAM trip keeping in view Guangdong province’s current plans of forming a free-trade zone spanning Guangdong's borders with Hong Kong and Macau. Macau has been regularly organizing FAM trips for agents and media from its target markets in the country. It was recently adjudged the ‘Most Promising New Destination’ award at the Kolkata edition of Travel and Tourism Fair.
