Inaugurating a two-day practical workshop-cum-seminar on stress management and prevention of lifestyle disorders, Mr. Rakesh Mehta, Election Commissioner Govt of Delhi said that meditation is better than medication if incorporated in medical management.

He said that most schools today are incorporating yoga, relaxation,
pranayama and meditation as part of school curriculum. Scientific
studies have shown that regular meditation not only makes one
healthier but also improves efficiency and reduces stress-related
disorders.
Mr. Mehta said that meditation, pranayama and relaxation techniques
have now been validated by allopathy and should be included by
allopathic doctors. He said that every hospital should have a
Mind-Body Department which should deal in teaching such techniques.

Padma Shri and Dr. B C Roy Awardee Dr. K K Aggarwal, President Heart
Care Foundation of India, said that all Vedantic yogic techniques
shift one from sympathetic mode to parasympathetic mode. The healing
is better when mind and body are relaxed. It is possible to reduce
blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety, depression, insomnia and heart
diseases just by living a yogic lifestyle. A mind-body yogic lifestyle
should be an integral part of allopathic healing.
BK Shanti & BK Brij Mohan from Om Shanti Retreat Centre said that
doing meditation 20 minutes a day gives you similar benefits as that
obtained with 7 hours of deep sleep.
BK Sapna; Dr. Dinesh Negi President, IMA New Delhi Branch; Dr. Vinod
Khetarpal President DMA also spoke on the occasion.
