“Considering the interest of MBA aspirants, the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) would continue in both formats i.e. paper-pencil as well as online in coming years. As per the records only 10% of the MAT aspirants opt for online format which proves that majority of the Indian MBA aspirants prefer paper-pencil format.” This was stated by Wing Commander V. S. Bejoy, Director, CMS, All India Management Association (AIMA), New Delhi in a National level seminar on “Management Education in India- Challenges & Opportunities” held today at PHD Chamber, Chandigarh. The seminar was organized by MAT allied B-School i.e. Aryans School of Management (ASM).

On the occasion many eminent speakers / management gurus from industry as well as academia including Brig (Dr.) R.S. Grewal, VSM (Retd.), VC, Chitkara University ; Mr. Dalip Sharma, Regional Director, PHD Chamber ; Mr. Sony Goyal, Alumnus, IIM Ahmadabad, also addressed the students. Dr.Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group of College presided over the function.

Bejoy also said that many state governments has scrapped their state level MBA entrance exam and considering MAT scores for admissions to their affiliated colleges. He said that on one hand it gives flexibility to the student to appear in either of the MAT exam held four time in a year and on the other hand it reduces the burden of state government to hold the MBA entrance. He said that all colleges of Haryana, Uttrakhand, etc are considering MAT for MBA admission. He requested Punjab government to consider MAT exam for admission in MBA colleges of Punjab.

Brig (Dr.) R.S. Grewal said that Management Education is teaching of planning at technical and strategical level but hardly any thing on implementation aspect. He stressed that how to organize work is not talked to our managers. Further it is based on ‘One size fit all’ Philosophy; where as individual requirements are different.

Mr. Dalip Sharma, RD, PHD Chamber urged the students to look into practical aspect of Management Education because normally fresh MBAs are known to have theoretical knowledge when they go to the work place. Mr. Soni Goyal, Alumnus, IIM Ahmadabad said that soft skills are totally missing in management education. If they are made part of curriculum, even then they are not taken seriously by faculty as well as by students. The objective of B-School is to deliver stuff, as per need of the organization, not on the basis of one attains the grade, but the personality one develops during stay in the school.

Prof. D. C. Kataria (Vice Chairman); Dr. Parveen Kataria (Director General); Dr.D.P.Singh; Dr.Manjit Kalra; Dr. A.S.Balgir; Dr.Nindru Bal also spoke on the occasion.
