March to Parliament – Repeal Prasar Bharati Act
The Union Government itself filed an affidavit before the Hon’ble Supreme Court way back in 2005 that they could not implement the Act in letter and spirit, as Prasar Bharati is financially not viable to maintain the assets and the employees.
The Group of Ministers constituted in March 2006, under the chairmanship of Shri. Shivraj Patil, the then Home Minister (in which Sh. Chidambaram, in the capacity of Hon’ble Minister of Finance was also the member) could not finalise their recommendations even after more than 3 years, except discussing the possibility of issuing public equity to cover the losses. The only positive recommendation was to retain the employees in government fold. Now it is learnt that Govt has constituted another GoM, under the Chairmanship of Sh. Chidambaram, perhaps again to prolong the matter?
Having had enough of the miserable experience for the last 12 years, the NFADE is now demanding repeal of the PB Act itself, so that AIR&DD are back in government fold.
