New Delhi : The congress has not yet recovered from the criticism over Sam Pitroda’s alleged racist and apartheid statement that another senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyer has again said something which can be controversial. In fact, Mani Shankar Aiyar said in a conversation that ‘Pakistan is a sovereign country and they also have a nuclear bomb, so we should respect them.
Recently, Congress leader Sam Pitroda, while talking about India’s diversity in an interview, had said that ‘People in the East of India look like Chinese, South Indians look like Africans and people in the West look like Arabs, yet we are one.’ However, due to the analogies given by Pitroda in his statement, BJP termed Pitroda’s statement as racist and apartheid and launched a scathing attack on Congress over it. Congress also appeared to be on the back foot due to Pitroda’s statement and the party distanced itself from Pitroda’s statement.
A video of Mani Shankar Aiyar has been shared on social media, in which Aiyar supported talks with Pakistan and appealed to the government saying that ‘Pakistan is a sovereign country and they also have respect, while maintaining that respect. You can talk to them whatever you want, but talk to them. You are roaming around with a gun and that is increasing the tension. Iyer said, ‘What will happen if some madman comes to power there, he has a nuclear bomb. We also have it, but if a bomb explodes at Lahore station, the radiation from the bomb will reach Amritsar in just 8 seconds.
In such a situation, we should try to stop the use of bombs through talks. If you try to talk to them and respect them, only then they will not think about their bomb. If India wants to become a world leader, then it is important to show that we are working hard to resolve our issues with Pakistan. For this we will have to talk and there has been no talk in the last 10 years. However, Mani Shankar Aiyar has claimed that this video is several months old.
Mani Shankar Aiyar has already shown his love for Pakistan. Recently, Mani Shankar Aiyar had gone to Pakistan to attend the Faiz Mahotsav in Lahore. During this, he said that ‘people of Pakistan shower love when they receive love. In every country I have ever visited, I have never been welcomed with such openness as I have received in Pakistan. In my experience, people of Pakistan are such that they overreact to the other side. If we show friendship then Pakistanis show more friendship than that. If we show hostility, they also show more hostility. In 2018, Mani Shankar Aiyar had said in one of his statements that he was proud of Pakistan’s policy on Kashmir. He said that ‘they love Pakistan as much as they love India.
