New Delhi :  Elections of five states in the country are going to be held on Thursday. The results are to be declared on December 3. After this, all the parties will start preparing for the Lok Sabha elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA alliance is set to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

At the same time, the opposition India Alliance has not yet taken any decision in this regard. From the opposition side, the names of Rahul Gandhi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were coming forward for PM candidate. But, meanwhile, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has indicated to hand over a big responsibility to Congress President Kharge.

Prominent opposition leaders, including former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, have advocated a bigger role for Kharge in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This came to light on the occasion of the unveiling of the book written on the Congress President in New Delhi. During this, the opposition leaders also resolved to strengthen the unity of the India Alliance. Some expressed the view that Kharge should lead the India faction.
Days before the results of the five assembly elections were declared, Sonia Gandhi said Kharge was best suited to lead the Congress party in this historic battle for the soul of India.

In her speech, Sonia praised Kharge’s commitment and ideology. His illustrious life and work exemplify the values that the founders and architects of modern India embodied, he said. Being a symbol of the indomitable Indian spirit, he faced many adverse situations in his long journey.

Let us tell you that 81-year-old Mallikarjun Kharge was elected National President of Congress on 26 October last year. Under his rule, the Congress party has won two assembly elections in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. Apart from this, he has been successful in bringing together at least 27 parties under the banner of India Alliance. All these parties have resolved to contest the Lok Sabha elections together in 2024.

Kharge said, because of democracy and the Constitution, I could reach this position from an ordinary worker. Today both the Constitution and parliamentary democracy are in danger. The people in power do not believe in the Constitution. He has said that he is waiting for the right time to change this and bring his own constitution.

Sonia Gandhi praised Kharge and said that he has shared many of my burdens with steadfast courage, unwavering kindness and sharp intelligence. Today he is leading the Congress Party at a critical juncture. The people in power are indifferent to constitutional and institutional values. Destroying all the institutions, systems and principles by which India has flourished since independence.

DMK’s TR Baalu, one of the oldest allies of the Congress before Sonia Gandhi, said it is more important that Kharge, the senior-most leader of the India alliance, leads the parties together without any problem so that we can win the 2024 elections.

At the same time, RJD’s Rajya Sabha leader Manoj Jha, citing the prediction of Congress MLA Abhishek Manu Singhvi, said that there is no result for Kharge yet. At the same time, CPIM’s Sitaram Yechury said that Kharge has a big responsibility.
