KNOW INDIA PROGRAMME – VISIT TO HARYANA
The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi has prepared a scheme to create awareness amongst foreign youth of India origin about the phenomenal transformations taking place in India and the progress made by it from just a destination for culture, heritage and art to an emerging powerhouse in the world. These programmes are also meant to generate deeper interest among the participants and through them in others towards the land of their ancestors and would in the long run be useful to India in acquiring its rightful place in the comity of nations. The programme includes visit to University/College/Institute, taking part in activities related to youth, visit to industries, exposure to media/film industry, interaction with organizations dealing with women affairs including NGOs, visit to places of historical importance/Monuments, taking part in cultural programmes etc. The idea is to provide the participations with a broad overview of the country while ensuring that they also have some time to enjoy the trips.
These programmes are conducted in partnership with various State Governments and accordingly at the request of the Ministry, Haryana Sate has agreed to be the partner State for 14th KNOW INDIA PROGRAMME. A group of 40 students from various countries like Argentina, Canada, Chile, Fiji, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Russia, South Africa & Trinidad would be visiting Haryana from 6th to 9th April,2010 and would be spending first two days in Chandigarh, Pinjore & adjoining places. On third day, the group would be visiting Kurukshetra to see the various places of tourist & religious interest in Kurukshetra as well as visit to Kurukshetra University. The return journey would be on the 4th day i,e on 9th April and on way to Delhi from Kurukshertra, the group would be visiting NDRI -Karnal and the Refinery at Panipat.
