The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that it is not possible to ensure the quality of life without electricity. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the new building of UP Electricity Regulatory Commission, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh yesterday. The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Ram Naik, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, the Minister for Energy, Uttar Pradesh, Pt. Shrikant Sharma, the Minister of State for Energy, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Swatantra Dev Singh and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The Vice President complemented the authorities for constructing an energy efficient building and called it a model for other government and commercial buildings that are moving in the direction of energy conservation and energy saving. Our economy and lifestyle are dependent of electricity, he added.

The Vice President said that people must make efficient and effective use of electricity as it is not renewable. He also called on people to explore the possibility of new and renewable energy sources. If electricity is to be given to every household, then it will have to be made so cheap that neither the consumer will be burdened, he added.

The Vice President called for a relook into the way electricity has been viewed. He further said that it is time that one also considers regulating the demand for electricity apart from focusing on energy supply like production and distribution.

The Vice President said that source of energy-resources are limited and we should bring basic improvements in our lifestyle and make the environment energy efficient. Commission can play an important role in determining the criteria for efficiency in the power sector and Demand Side Management (DSM), he added.
