The industry body ISMA has urged the government to allow export of 20 lakh tonnes of sugar in the current marketing year ending in September.

Export of surplus sugar consignment will improve the liquidity of mills, enabling them to make timely payments to sugarcane farmers, ISMA said.

Allowing the export of 20 lakh tonnes of sugar could indeed be a strategic move to address surplus stock and improve the financial health of sugar mills.

Exporting surplus sugar can not only help in managing inventory but also support the sugar industry by ensuring timely payments to sugarcane farmers.

This step could potentially stabilize the market and benefit both the industry and the farmers.
