International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation Policy Committee meeting held

INVC,, Delhi,, The 2nd meeting of the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) Policy Committee (PoCo) was hosted by the Government of India in New Delhi, during October 25-26, 2010. Shri G.B. Pradhan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, was the Vice Chair of the Policy Committee of IPEEC. During the 2nd PoCo meeting of the IPEEC, member countries have conveyed their interest in taking up new initiatives to upscale energy efficiency in various sectors through cross cutting technology promotion, capacity building and outreach activities and providing a global platform for voluntary intra-industry discussion and cooperation on energy efficiency within several key energy-intensive sectors. The International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) is a high level international forum that provides global leadership on energy efficiency by identifying and facilitating implementation of policies and programs that yield high energy-efficiency gains. IPEEC also aims to promote information exchange on best practices and facilitate initiatives to improve energy efficiency. Founded in May 2009, IPEEC is a voluntary, ministerial level forum of developed and developing countries that represent the major economies of the world. The IPEEC Secretariat is hosted at the International Energy Agency (IEA). An Executive Committee (with Japan as the current Chair and India as one of the Vice Chair) and a Policy Committee (with the US as the current Chair and India as one of the Vice Chair) provide overall guidance on administrative, policy and technical issues. As of October 2010, IPEEC members include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, United Kingdom and USA. All the member countries with the exception of China and Mexico participated during the 2nd PoCo. IPEEC member nations currently account for over 75% of global GDP and energy-use. Denmark and Sweden participated as observers at this IPEEC meeting. IPEEC also looks at other existing international partnerships on energy efficiency to culminate best practices and success stories.
