After retail, now wholesale inflation has also moderated slightly. India’s wholesale inflation eased to 15.18% in June, amid some moderation in global commodity prices, including crude and edible oils. The situation has improved but even now these figures are going to increase the tension.
This is the 15th consecutive month that the wholesale inflation figures have come in double digits. However, the three-month trend of increasing wholesale inflation has definitely stopped in June. In May too, wholesale inflation was at a three-decade high of 15.88%. In this context, there has been a slight decline in June.
If we compare with June 2021, then the wholesale inflation rate has increased. Wholesale inflation stood at 12.07% in June 2021. Food prices have risen by 14.39% in June 2022 as compared to a year ago. The rate of increase in prices in vegetables was 56.75%, while that in potatoes and fruits were 39.38% and 20.33% respectively.
Similarly, fuel and electricity prices increased by 40.38%. Inflation in crude petroleum and natural gas stood at 77.29% in June. PLC/GT
