India and Poland have agreed to enhance the bilateral cooperation in the Films Sector. The effort would be to diversify the levels of cooperation and exchange in the areas of Film Festivals, and exchange programmes between National Film Schools of both the countries. The issues were discussed in a meeting today between Smt. Ambika Soni, Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Mr. Bogdan Zdrajewski, the Minister for Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
During the discussions, Smt. Soni emphasised the importance India gave to Films from Poland. She referred to this year’s International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa from 23rd Nov- 3rd Dec. 2011, where a special section on contemporary Polish Cinema is being organised as part of the World Cinema Programme. Films from Poland will be screened in the Section “Spotlight on Poland”, in the International Competition Section and in the Section “A Cut Above”. The possibility of organising Film Festivals in both the countries was also discussed.
Regarding the proposed ‘Audio Visual Co-production Agreement’ between the two countries, Smt. Soni told the Polish Minister that the due process of Inter Ministerial Consultations would be completed shortly, so as to enable due process forward.
Both Ministers also discussed the possibility of exchange programme between the National Film Schools at Lodz, Poland and SRFTI and FTII. The Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, India has indicated that they would be interested in entering into an agreement with National Film Schools, Lodz, Poland. The agreement would focus on ‘Student Exchange Programmes’ and ‘Faculty Exchange Programmes’.
During IFFI -2011, Goa, nine films from Poland will be screened. In the International Competition Section, the film by Mr. Lech Majewski titled “The Mill and the Cross” will feature. Some of the prominent films in the Spotlight Section on Poland include, “The Winner” directed by Wieslaw Saniewski, “Heritage” directed by Andrzej Baranski and “The Entanglement” directed by Mr. Jacek Bromski.
