The proximity of the green stripe on the photo of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi does not tell whether the note is genuine or fake.

In a social media post, the Fact Check handle of the official Press Information Bureau has rubbished rumors that all the notes depicting a green stripe closer to the photo than the signature of the RBI Governor are fake. In the tweet, PIB has said, ‘In a message it is being claimed that the note of Rs 500 is fake, in which the green strip is not near the RBI Governor’s signature but near the picture of Gandhiji. This claim is false. According to the Reserve Bank, both types of notes are valid.

A link to a document has also been given in the tweet which gives detailed information about various aspects of the Rs 500 note. The document states, “The Rs 500 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series are different from the current series in colour, size, theme and design. The size of the new note is 66mm x 150mm. The notes are gray in color and have major new The theme is Indian Heritage Site – Red Fort.” PLC&GT
