IGNOU to give Fee Exemption to SC/ST Students

Indira Gandhi National Open University will be giving fee exemption to the students belongs to Scheduled Cast and Scheduled Tribes Category for all the academic programmes upto Graduation level. A notification in this regard has been issued by IGNOU New Delhi to all its Regional Centre for implementation of this scheme in January, 2018 admission cycle.

Dr. Manorama Singh, IGNOU Regional Director that prospective learners of IGNOU belonging to SC/ST categories will be granted admission through even through offline mode without payment of any admission fees. Under this category, those students who have applied online and have deposited the fees, the same will be reimbursed after the confirmation of admissions. This scheme for exemption or reimbursement will be applicable in all certificate programme of six month duration, all diploma programmes of one year duration and all programmes of the graduation, which includes Bachelors of Arts, Science, Commerce, Tourism, Social Work, Computer Application, Education and Library Science. Even the fees will be reimbursed for all the students seeking admission in 2nd and 3rd year of the graduation level programme.

Dr. Manorama also added that, a two page admission application forms are available at the Study Centres for applying in offline mode. The SC/ST students may apply in any of these programmes along with mark-sheets and cast certificate and the filled in application forms should reach the IGNOU Regional Centre, Lucknow on or before 31st January, 2018. All the study centres have been instructed to popularize this scheme amongst the various stake holders specially in rural areas for maximum reach of the benefits.

Mr. Anshuman Upadhyaya, Assistant Regional Director informed that the admission seekers may also contact the nearest Common Service Centre and can get the print out of the Common Admission Form which can be used for applying by SC/ST candidates under the fee exemption scheme. The certificate programmes can be of great use for students between 18 to 24 years of the age as they may add ‘Value’ to their existing knowledge and may also enhance their employability skills.
