The Syrian army general played a key role in defeating the rebels in the country’s long-running civil war. Putin’s statement now appears to be true and hundreds of Syrian fighters from Brigadier General Suhail al-Hasan’s contingent are reportedly ready to fight in Ukraine on behalf of Russian troops.

Syrian soldiers, former rebels and veteran fighters who have fought for years against Islamic State in the Syrian desert may be sent to help Russian forces in Ukraine.

Russian officials claimed at the start of the war that more than 16,000 fighters from the Middle East had applied for training expressing their willingness to join the war against Ukraine. However, analysts say Russia is preparing for the next phase of the war with a massive offensive in eastern Ukraine. He believes Syrian fighters may be deployed in the next few weeks. PLC &GT
