HPSU family should make efforts to unite all students unions : Virbhadra Singh

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said it was a matter of great honour for the people of the State as well as for the students of Himachal Pradesh, who while studying in Chandigarh have preserved their traditions and culture and had carried it along with great zeal and enthusiasm together with academics and other curricular activities.

He was presiding over the 11th Annual cultural evening cum prize distribution function ‘ Ek Shaam Himachal Ke Naam’ of Himachal Pradesh Students Union (HPSU), in Punjab University Auditorium at Chandigarh today.

He said that he won’t cow down to the tactics of Opposition who were trying hard to destabilize the popularly elected congress government in the state and said that none of the BJP leaders would succeed in their ulterior motives. He said that his political opponents in Himachal, in collusion with the few central leaders of the like coterie, were afraid of his popularity and dared them to fight the battle right from the front rather than backstabbing. Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the truth would prevail in the end, no matter how much conspiracy was hatched against him.

He   gave a message to the students to spread love and brotherhood and asked them to stand upright in all situations and be true to themselves and their country.

The Chief Minister announced a sum of Rs. 3.50 lakh from his discretionary fund to HPSU and assured that the government will take up the matter for construction of working hostel only if some official communication was received from the Punjab University authorities.

He said that Himachal Pradesh was a treasure house of vivid and vast culture endowed with rich legacy of traditions and belief in our deities and it was a matter of delight that our younger generation was doing well to promote the cultural heritage of the State.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the HPSU family was doing exceptionally well for the welfare of the students of the state and rendering their valuable services.

He exhorted the students to take up their studies seriously and said that the HPSU family should make efforts to unite all other students unions of different states so as to bring them on a single platform of all the students for spreading fraternity and devote themselves in the welfare activities of all as a whole.

The Chief Minister said that the state had progressed in all spheres and was one of the most developed hill states in the country. Today there were as many as 94 colleges in the state catering to quality educational needs of the youth of the state, particularly the girls. He also listed the development and the progress achieved by the state in Health, Road and social welfare sector. He said Himachal was becoming an educational hub of the country.

The Chief Minister also stressed upon nationalism and said that, we are, because of our country,  the ‘Bharat’ and exhorted the students to be aware of the anti-social elements as they can never be the true benefactors of the the Country.

He also released a calendar of HPSU and distributed prizes to those who had excelled themselves in academics and other fields as well.

Earlier, he was welcomed and honoured by the founder President, Dr. Deepak Rawat, and President HPSU, Shri Vikendra Dutt and other office bearers  of HPSU. They also placed the demand of working hostel in the Panjab University campus.

A spellbound and colourful cultural presentation was given by the Himachali students on the occasion which also included different shades of  the rich culture of the State.

OSD to Chief Minister, Shri Amit Pal, Deputy Commissioner, Solan, Shri Rakesh Kanwar, Patron HPSU, Shri Kuldeep Singh Rawat, Chairman, Shri Nishant, Vice-President, Ms. Ruchi Negi, General Secretary, Shri Sanjeev Negi, Joint Secretary, Shri Karthikeyan were also present on the occasion amongst others.
